3 Key Features to Enhance the Security of Your VoIP.ms Account
18 December 2019VoIP has come a long way since its inception and more and more businesses are making the move towards VoIP. However, with the rise of VoIP phone system providers and the growing number of new and emerging technologies, we have also witnessed an increment of cyber threats simultaneously, that being said, VoIP.ms understands the importance of security, thus offering different features to give an extra layer of protection to your account are the following.
1. Two-step Verification
The two-step verification feature is an extra layer of security for your account that will intercept any possible login attempts. The process involves two verification methods performed one after the other in a short period of time. By enabling this function, it will ask you to enter a 6-digits code, which will be received via the email address that you have signed up with. Once the email is received, you will have 15 minutes to enter the code, otherwise, you will be required to prompt for a new one. You also have the possibility to make our system remember your browser so that on other occasions, you won’t be prompted for this security feature.

2. TOTP (Two-factor authentication with TOTP)
Two-factor authentication (also called 2FA) is a type of multi-factor authentication that helps confirm the identity of the user attempting to log into your account. The authentication involves generating a temporary, unique code that only works for a certain amount of time. This will require you to have an authenticator application (for example: Google Authenticator, FreeOTP, Microsoft Authenticator among many others) and the option enabled in your VoIP.ms account.
This function will give you a QR code, which you will be able to read with your favorite authenticator and force you to provide the 6-digit code before you access your account. You will also get to choose if you want our system to remember your browser and thus, every time you would login from that specific browser, you wouldn’t be prompted with the authentication steps.

3. IP Restriction
Another way of protecting your account would be by enabling the possibility to restrict any outgoing calls from the IP address or IP range specified which would not match this setting. This way, you can guarantee that whoever will use your credentials to make calls will be from an authorized location (office or home for example). What is important to know is that most internet service providers provide their users dynamic IP addresses, meaning that you could have your identifier on the internet changed after resetting your network or after a service interruption from your internet provider. This setting is usually favorable for users that have a static IP address, but this doesn’t stop you from using it if you wish to include an additional layer of security to your account.
By enabling these key features, you can add an extra layer of protection to your VoIP.ms account. We have many more features that can help increase the security of your account such as restricting the amount that can be spent per minute, allowing the desired destinations you wish to reach and many more.
